Running can be for pleasure, fitness training or competitive sport. Running can be a competitive sport or used as training for sports that have endurance components. There are several types of races, each requiring different strengths, tactics, training methods and types of competitors. Road running is running a measured course over an established road while in cross country running, teams and individuals run over natural terrain. Track running takes place on an oval track in a sports stadium and is divided into sprint, middle and long distance races.
Running is free and you can do it almost anywhere. It gets you fit and builds stamina more than any other mainstream exercise. Not everyone can run a marathon but almost anyone can run - all you really need is a good pair of trainers. Join a local club to keep you motivated, get outdoors and run cross country or think of the thrill of track racing. Start slowly and build up your endurance - you were born to run!
