Upholstery is providing furniture with padding, springs, webbing and fabric or leather covers. The term applies to domestic and commercial furniture, particularly chairs, sofas and mattresses. Traditional upholstery uses materials like coil springs, animal hair, coir, grasses, hessians, linen scrims and wadding and is done by hand. In contrast, modern upholsterers use synthetic materials.
