Metalworking is the process of working with metals to create metal objects and art works. Metalworking is divided into the processes of forming, cutting and joining. Forming may be done by casting molten metal or by using mechanical forces either with or without heat. Cutting is the processes or removing excess materials with various tools, such as a saw or chisel, or turning, milling or drilling with machines. Joining may be done by welding, brazing, soldering or riveting.
Blacksmithing has been around for centuries but, while design technology has come a long way, there's still a market for useful and beautiful metal objects. A modern blacksmith might be designing architectural work one day and be involved in an intricate restoration or making replicas of archaeological objects for a museum the next.
