Easy listening is a popular music genre with its heyday in the 1950s to 1970s. Easy Listening encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs and popular non-rock vocals as well as the voices of lounge singers or popular vocalists. In the 1950s and 1960s, Swing music saw a revival and is also thought of as Easy Listening. Swing emphasized the vocalist over instrumentation and many of these songs came from the Great American Songbook.
Easy Listening is everyone's guilty pleasure. But why so guilty? From Frank Sinatra to Dionne Warwick, Henry Mancini to The Carpenters, Easy Listening has some of the most iconic voices, composers and song writers of the 20th Century. Find your inner lounge lizard and go with the flow.
