Rock music is a variety of guitar based popular music styles. Rock is usually played as part of a group with electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and a lead vocalist. Rock places emphasis on musicianship, live performance and authenticity. The late 1960s are considered the classic rock period, from which a number of genres emerged, including Psychedelic Rock, Progressive or Art Rock, Glam Rock and Heavy Metal. Rock music is often seen as an expression of youth rebellion.
If you're a Rock fan, you probably already know your tribe - American Trad, Blues Rock, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock or Soft. What they all have in common is guitars - the louder, the better! Rock music is made for live performance, so get yourself out to a gig or festival, see your favourite bands or discover some new ones. It's only Rock 'n' Roll but we like it!
