Drama is theatre or TV story-telling intended to be more serious than humorous in tone. Characters in film, television, and radio drama tend to be developed in-depth and deal with realistic emotional struggles. Drama includes subgenres such as Crime and Legal Drama; Romantic drama; Comedy-drama, in which there is a balance of humour and serious content; Melodrama, which uses plots that evoke heightened emotions, Tragedy in which a character's downfall is caused by a character flaw or error of judgment and Docudrama, which uses actors to play roles in current or historical events.
We all love a good drama - the characters, the suspense, the fantastic stories. We've been telling ourselves stories for millennia - they help us make sense of our lives and teach us valuable lessons about how best to live them. Dramas are relaxing, entertaining and immersive. Break out a box-set, snuggle up with the radio or, best of all, get out to the theatre and lose yourself in a great story. Be a drama queen!
