Cycle racing is a bicycle racing sport on paved roads, off-road or on a track. Road racing events are on paved roads where competing riders start at the same time - the winner is the first to the line at the end of the course. Race distances vary from a few kilometres to more than 200 km and courses may run from place to place or comprise one or more laps of a circuit. Track cycling is held on specially built, banked tracks or velodromes using specially designed track bicycles.
Road racing is an outdoor, team based sport that demands great endurance, power, technical skill and tactics. Track cycling often takes place indoors where riders compete at high speeds along the steep wooden banks of the velodrome. Cycling of any kind is great exercise and, with so many competitive disciplines from the mud-splattered obstacle course of Cyclo Cross to Mountain Biking, there's something for everyone who wants to get fit while sharpening their competitive instinct.
