Mountain biking is the sport of riding over rough terrain using mountain bikes. The bikes are designed for durability and performance. Most mountain biking is Trail and Cross Country style riding but in Downhill, Freeride and Dirt Jumping, aerial manoeuvres are performed from natural features and specially constructed ramps. Enduro is a form of Mountain bike racing in which there are a number of timed downhill sections and a number of untimed uphill transfer stages.
Mountain Biking is an adrenaline filled, individual sport requiring endurance and the bike handling skills to keep the bike in motion over long distances of challenging terrain. Downhill and 4-cross need nerves of steel and great bike control as competitors hurtle down hazard-strewn tracks. Cross country (used in the Olympics) and Enduro put the emphasis on sheer physical fitness.
