The emphasis is on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core and improving coordination and balance. The system allows for exercises to be modified for beginners or for the more advanced.
Pilates is a system of body control and conditioning that coordinates breathing with movement. It demands intense concentration - technique is the most important thing. Done with precision, the exercises flow into each other and really improve your core strength, flexibility and balance. You'll need a mat and some classes use props such as a reformer, magic circle, roller or theraband to help you find your core and improve your posture.
