Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates described his method as the art of controlled movements and it is practiced by millions of people worldwide. The emphasis is on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core and improving coordination and balance. The system allows for exercises to be modified for beginners or for the more advanced.
Pilates is a system of body control and conditioning that coordinates breathing with movement. It demands intense concentration - technique is the most important thing. Done with precision, the exercises flow into each other and really improve your core strength, flexibility and balance. You'll need a mat and some classes use props such as a reformer, magic circle, roller or theraband to help you find your core and improve your posture.
