T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a Chinese martial art practiced for defence training and health benefits. Practised for many reasons such as competitive wrestling, demonstration competitions and simply for well being, there a several forms with differing emphasis. Most modern styles trace their development to at least one of the five traditional schools: Chen, Yang, Wu, Wu (Hao) and Sun.
This ancient Chinese art has many varieties - Chen style was originally meant for fighting armoured opponents while Yang style is the most popular and widely practiced. Yang style combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements and is a good outside or indoor exercise even for older people. Beautiful to watch and relaxing to do, T'ai Chi improves fitness and wellbeing and enhances quality of life.
