Boules is a game of rolling a ball closer to a target than one's opponents. Boules-type games are traditional and popular all over the world but particularly in France and Italy where games are often played in town squares and parks. In the south of France boules is also called Pétanque and, in Italy, Bocce. A game can be played between two players, or two teams of two, three, or four.
Pétanque, Boules or Bocce - this family of games have a common ancestry in the Roman Empire. They're games that can be played by anyone, socially with friends for fun or more competitively up to World Championship levels. The basic rules are simple and new players can start playing straight away but the precision techniques of pointing and shooting as well as the tactics can take years of practice to master.
