Bowls is a sport with the aim of rolling biased balls close to a target. Bowls or Lawn Bowls is played on a bowling green which may be flat or uneven. It is normally played outdoors on grass or artificial turf, although there are indoor venues. The Jack or Kitty is rolled to the far end of the green as a target. Players then take turns to roll their bowls, which are designed to travel a curved path. After each competitor has delivered all their bowls, the distance of the closest bowls to the jack is determined and points are awarded.
Bowls is a competitive sport that can be played by people of any age, as the basics are easy to pick up. Traditionally, it's been seen as an older person's game but recently an increasing number of younger people are taking it up. The aim is simple - to get your bowls as close as possible to a small target ball called the jack but, to play well, you need determination, concentration, precision and, of course, practice.
