Skiing is a sport in which participants use skis to glide on snow. Skiing is an Olympic winter sport, a mode of transport and a leisure activity. The Nordic disciplines include cross-country skiing and ski jumping. Downhill skiing or Alpine skiing typically takes place at a ski resort accessed by ski lifts, whereas Heli-skiing is off-trail, downhill skiing accessed by a helicopter. Ski touring is a form of skiing where both uphill and downhill travel are possible without needing to remove skis - typically done off-piste and outside of ski resorts.
Nothing beats spending a day in the mountain fresh air having fun and getting fit. Skiing offers adrenaline filled thrills regardless of your ability and it will certainly build your strength and stamina. Dry ski slopes and indoor snow sport centres offer a cheaper alternative and a chance to practise your skills before heading for the mountains.
